October is almost here. That means Halloween is just around the corner. Personally, I am very excited about celebrations and Halloween is not the exception. Since I was very young, I have loved this season. Getting costumes ready, make-up, sugar cookies, and of course the best movies to watch on a stormy night. Halloween movies have a special feeling that I can´t describe. It’s a vibe that makes it special. We can celebrate Halloween all month, and even host a Halloween brunch

In this post, I am going to share with you some of my favorite movies to watch in October. They might not be the bloody, scary type of Halloween movies you are thinking of, but for sure they are some of the greatest classics. If you feel like staying in having a bowl of popcorn or a bucket of ice cream and a movie, this post is perfect for you.

It´s the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)

It is an American prime-time animated special based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz. A Halloween classic that was the third Peanuts special to be produced and animated by Bill Melendez. Like all Peanuts adventures, this one has a warm and kind story behind it.

Harry Potter (all movies)

Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by British author J. K. Rowling. The novels chronicle the lives of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Caraline (2009)

This Halloween movie is the story of an adventurous girl who walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers a strangely idealized version of her frustrating home, but it has sinister secrets. In stop-motion, the magical story is visually stunning.

Zombieland (2009)

This one is one of my favorites! Zombieland is an American zombie comedy film directed by Ruben Fleischer in his theatrical debut and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The actors are so great, they make the movie great. Here the dead play as a metaphor for growing up.

Hotel Transylvania 4 (2021)

It is the lovely story of Van Helsing’s mysterious new invention. It transforms Drac and his pals into humans and Johnny into a monster. With their new mismatched bodies, Drac and the pack must find a way to switch themselves back before their transformations become permanent. It’s a playful family-friendly movie.

The craft (1996)

An adventure where a new student befriends three teenage girls from her high school. Together they practice witchcraft against those who irk them. However, the consequences of joining the coven turn out to be disastrous. It is a classic that will always spark our Halloween nights!

Twitches (2005)

Adventurous Twin sister witches who were separated at birth. They reunite on their 21st birthday and discover their magical powers together. They must face an evil spirit to save their mother and kingdom from dark evil forces.

Addams Family

When an evil doctor learns about an eccentric family’s missing relative, she hires an imposter to masquerade as him so that she can loot the family. Supernatural black comedy based on cartoon characters from a comic. Today we can find many versions of this extravagant family.

Hocus Pocus (1993)

This Halloween movie is an essential classic. Three witches resurrect after 300 years to exact revenge and begin a reign of terror. After Max, a young boy who moves to Salem with his family, lights a cursed Candle of Black Flame. It gives us a beautiful message to share with family.

The hunted mansion (2003)

A couple decides to visit a mansion that Edward Gracey wants to sell. However, they soon discover that the property is haunted by evil spirits.

Beetlejuice (1988)

Like all Tim Burton´s movies, this one is great! When the deceased couple Adam and Barbara are unsuccessful in scaring away a family that has moved into their old house, they seek the help of bio-exorcist Betelgeuse. Extravagant characters make this a great Halloween movie.

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

The bizarre story of Edward, a synthetic man with scissor hands, is taken in by Peg, a kindly Avon lady, after the passing of his inventor. Things take a turn for the worse when he is blamed for a crime he did not commit.

Ghostbusters (1984)

When Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz, and Egon Spengler lose their jobs as scientists, they start an establishment called Ghostbusters to fight the evil ghosts lurking in New York City. So, who are you gonna call?

Casper (1995)

Carrigan Crittenden hires paranormal expert Dr. James Harvey to exorcise the ghosts from her mansion. The situation changes when Harvey’s daughter befriends Casper, a friendly ghost. It is a cute story for all the family.

Rocky Horror Picture Show (1978)

A flat tire leaves Brad and Janet stranded on a stormy night. They experience strange incidents when they seek shelter in a nearby castle belonging to Frank-N-Furter, an eccentric transvestite. A wacky movie that will make Halloween night more interesting.

Truth or Dare (2018)

A group of friends who are lured into a game of truth or dare realize that the ones who lie or do not follow the rules, end up dead, mysteriously. It is an adventure that will make your heartbeat to the extreme.

Little shop of horrors (1986)

In the hopes of turning around the fortunes of his failing floral business, a nerdy florist purchases a blood-thirsty plant, from a Chinese street vendor. A classic that has turned into Broadway musicals.

Psycho (1971)

Psycho is an American horror franchise consisting of six films loosely based on the Psycho novels by Robert Bloch: Psycho, Psycho II, Psycho III, Bates Motel, Psycho IV: The Beginning, the 1998 remake of the original film, and additional merchandise spanning various media. If you want a real classic this is it!

Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Ichabod Crane, a police detective, is sent from the city of New York to Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of murders committed by the Headless Horseman.

The nightmare before Christmas (1994)

Jack Skellington, a being from Halloween Town, finds Christmas Town and is instantly enchanted. The situation becomes riveting when his obsession with Christmas leads him to abduct Santa Claus. Another Tim Burton´s great movie!

Gremlins (1984)

Billy’s father gets him a pet from China with three very specific instructions. However, when Billy does not follow them, it unleashes a horde of monsters.

I know what you did last summer (1997)

Four high school teenagers try to cover up a hit-and-run case. A year later, they start receiving anonymous letters and each one is attacked by a mysterious man who knows their deep, dark secret.

Practical Magic

After the death of their parents, Sally and Gillian Owens move in with their aunts, Jet, and Frances. The two sisters have nothing in common except their hereditary gift for practical magic.
